Chapter 5

Sep 18, 2026

When Wei Dong walked in carrying a meal box, Qin Youyou came hurrying out from the bathroom.

“Ge.” He seemed to be happy.

Wei Dong looked around at the house that had been tidied up before looking at Qin Youyou’s face—his eyes were practically gleaming.

“You tidied up?”

“Hmm, I didn’t have anything else to do.” His face was a little red.

“Didn’t I tell you to rest? You’re sick.” Wei Dong reached out an felt his forehead—sure enough, he was still a little warm. “Go wash up and then come eat.”

Qin Youyou went to the bathroom while Wei Dong set out the food. When he went to wash his hands, Qin Youyou was still standing there drying his hands. Wei Dong closed the tap and handed him the towel.

“You were supposed to stay here and recover, but it seems you haven’t been idle the entire morning.” Wei Dong hung up the towel.

Qin Youyou smiled as they walked out together. “Moving around and exercising helps get rid of the fever faster, but it’s mostly…” he glanced up at Wei Dong’s face. “Mostly because I’m happy, so I’m not tired.”

“What’s the reason you’re happy?” Wei Dong smiled and sat down on the small plastic stool and broke apart the disposable chopsticks.

“Because I’ve met you, I’m happy.” Qin Youyou used his chopstick to poke at the rice, his lips pursed. “I feel like I’m incredibly lucky.”

Wei Dong’s hand that was holding food stilled.

This Qin Youyou’s fever left him muddled. After his tearful account of his life’s experiences, Wei Dong didn’t know how innocent and pure his heart was—or rather, how lacking in warmth and love he was—for him to say the two words ‘incredibly lucky’ because of the kindness of a stranger.

Wei Dong glanced at him, smiled and lifted a piece of food to his mouth.

“I’m off this afternoon because I intended to take care of you. If I’d known that you’re lively as a dragon, I wouldn’t have taken off.” Wei Dong stuffed the rice into his mouth.

Hearing this, Qin Youyou was even happier. “Then this afternoon we can go to buy groceries and I’ll cook you a meal. I can cook.”

Wei Dong looked at his knees which were rubbed red and smiled. “Your knees are rubbed raw from kneeling on the floor to mop. How do you cook?”

Qin Youyou pulled the over-sized shorts down to cover his knees self-consciously. “A rag cleans better than a mop.”

“Within two days of you leaving I’ll have walked it back to the way it was.”

“I can come back every day,” Qin Youyou immediately answered.

Wei Dong smiled and lowered his head to continue eating, not saying anything.

Qin Youyou glanced at him and lowered his head to continue eating, also not saying anything.

Wei Dong felt like Qin Youyou rarely had the chance to eat his fill. Although he didn’t stuff down his food like starving wolf, he ate bite by bite, incredibly carefully, and cleaned up every last grain of rice from the food box.

Wei Dong had three boxes of rice because he was worried that Qin Youyou wouldn’t eat enough. He opened up another box and pushed it in front of him.

Qin Youyou immediately said “I’ve had enough, Ge.”

“Eat half and I’ll eat the rest.”

Qin Youyou scooped out some rice and obediently began to eat again. Soon enough he finished it. Wei Dong watched as he rubbed his stomach. “This time I’m really full.”

Wei Dong smiled. “Okay, first go rest. Don’t lie down or you’ll get indigestion.”

Qin Youyou didn’t leave—he sat on the small stool and waited. Wei Dong finished eating he immediately started to clean up.

“This afternoon you go take a nap, don’t worry about anything.” Wei Don put the empty food boxes into the trash bag and tied it up.

Qin Youyou waited for him to finish washing his hands and when he came out of the bathroom, he walked over and hugged him tightly.

“What’s wrong?” Wei Dong was startled.

Qin Youyou’s body was so small, and compared to Wei Dong he was shorter by almost a head. His thin arms held Wei Dong’s waist and he looked up at him. “Ge, do you want to do it?”

Wei Dong’s face reddened a bit and he wanted to pull out of his arms. “Don’t be ridiculous, you’re still sick.”

“It won’t affect it. I’m fine now.” Qin Youyou didn’t let go.

“Listen to me, you’re still injured. Aren’t you scared it will hurt?”

“I’m not sore, I really can do it.” Qin Youyou buried his head against Wei Dong’s chest and held him tightly, listening to the sound of his rapid heartbeat through the thoracic cavity.

“Qin Youyou.” Wei Dong took a deep breath and lowered his face. His strength was no match for Qin Youyou’s and he gripped his wrist away from his body. “You go and rest well for me, okay?”

“Why? I don’t want your money. I’ll doing it for free.” Qin Youyou stared at him.

Wei Dong’s eyebrows were pinched. “What nonsense are you talking? What kind of a person do you think I am?”

“You’re good to me, and I have nothing to pay you back with.” Qin Youyou’s eyes reddened. “Do you think I’m dirty?”

“Don’t speak like that,” Wei Dong got a little angry. “Even though I’m not a good person, I’m not an animal either. I’m not so inhumane as to injure a kid who’s already hurt and in pain. Now be obedient and go and lie down on the bed. If you speak nonsense again, you won’t be able to stay here with me.”

Qin Youyou stood there staring expressionlessly at Wei Dong.

After a few seconds he suddenly grabbed the T-shirt of Wei Dong’s he was wearing, ripped it off and threw it on the bed. Then he turned around and walked out to the balcony where he changed in to his own clothes and walked straight out of the door.

Wei Dong rushed to grab him. “What are you doing?”

“Leaving.”

“Don’t mess around.”

Qin Youyou’s eyes turned red and pulled out of his hand. “If you don’t like me then you don’t need to keep me. Don’t tell me that you like me, but actually, you don’t want to touch me. I might be shameless, but this is all I have. Isn’t this how you originally met up with me?”

He has quite a temper.

Wei Dong had no choice—he picked the person up by the waist, took a few quick steps over and placed him on the bed.

“Kid, why can’t you listen to a few strict words? From the moment I met you up until now, have I said or done anything that makes you feel like I dislike you?”

Wei Dong squatted down next to the bed, and Qin Youyou sat up in the bed to stare at him with his pursed lips together. He didn’t know what he was thinking, but while thinking about it his face flushed red again.

“You haven’t,” he said in a quiet voice.

“Then that’s all right then.” Wei Dong let out a sigh of relief, stood up and absentmindedly rubbed his head. “Other people don’t think that way, so don’t be too sensitive all the time. Alright, quickly lie down and rest.”

“What about you?” Qin Youyou turned his head and asked.

“I’ll rest with you. It’s seldom I take off from work. Thanks to you, I can also enjoy some time off.”

Qin Youyou immediately scooted over to make more space on the bed for Wei Dong. Wei Dong laughed and lay down next to him.
